Yeniseisk

The city of Yeniseisk, administrative centre of the same area of Krasnoyarsk region, is located on the left bank of The Yenisei, in 8 km to the south of the mouth of the river Kem. In Yeniseisk now you can find more than 70 monuments of history and culture, architecture. It is included into the list of 116 cities-monuments of Russia.

Yeniseisk - city-monument – is one of the oldest Siberian cities. The history of joining of The Eastern Siberia to Russia is unseparably concerned with its past. The city was founded in 1619 by the group of cossacks as a military fortress on the left bank of The Yenisei in 12 versts from its inflow Kemi. During one and a half centuries this city was " the main gate " to Eastern Siberia and "father" of the Siberian cities.

Architectural monuments in Yeniseisk are numerous: Spassko-Preobrazhenskiy priory (founded in 1642), Bogoyavlenskiy cathedral (1738-64), Voskresenskaya church (1735-47), Troickaya church (1772-76), Assumotion church (1793-1818), the building the regional museum of Eniseysk (1747-53) and others.

The central part of the city (street Greater / Lenin) is decorated by an ensemble of merchant private residences XVII-XIX centuries Stone architectural structures of sound houses and trading stores differ with their originality. The manors are enclosed by high brick fencings, massive gates are fettered by iron, in court yards there are huge capacious warehouses.

Wooden constructions present a big interest. Two-storeyed houses of merchants with the ladder apertures attached to them, wings, benchs till now amaze with the good quality and durability. Intricate wooden laces frame platbands of the windows, pediments and friezes of the houses. Roofs are issued by products from a tin - carved smoke bonnets and water-drains.

But not only fine private residences were built by the merchants of Yeniseysk. Many of them were spending their capital on construction of new churches. They did not regret money for the development of trade, formation and culture. Stone buildings of the end of 19 - the beginning of the 20 centuries in style of eclecticism and modernist style give to Yeniseisk an original shape.

On the surburbs of old city former wooden houses-manors are situated, including the end of 19 century, with typical balconies-galleries, ornaments, groove.
