Transsiberian railway
Krasnoyarsk - 4098 km of the Transsiberian railway
The Transsiberian railway (its extent is more than 9000 km) is in "The Atlas of World's Wonders. Oustanding Architectural Constructions and Monuments of All Times and Peoples", issued in 1991 in the USA. Besides it, the Kremlin and Petrodvorets, are mentioned in section "Russia". Russia has surprised the world with separate constructions on a railway, including Krasnoyarsk strucking with the railway bridge through Yenisey.
Perhaps, the most grandiose of separate constructions of the Trans-Siberian became the railway bridge through Yenisey with distance between piers up to 140 meters. It has been constructed at the end of XIX century and without any repair still works, amazing with the greatness and durability of its design. Separate difficulties were caused by Yenisey. In the spring and in the autumn, during flooding, the river became an insuperable barrier. The professor of the Moscow technical school Laurels Proskurjakov has tackled this problem. In 1895, for a short time he made the project of the railway bridge through Yenisey. In the same year there were held all necessary prospecting works, and there there has arrived to Krasnoyarsk an engineer-mechanic Evgenie Knorre, the future builder of a construction and the contractor of treasury. On August, 30, 1896 on solemn ceremony of the beginning of construction of the future bridge there was put a stone with the profound image of a cross in the base of the bottom of the coastal foundations. By tradition people threw on it gold and silver coins - for a success. And in three years there were taken industrial tests. First slowly from one river coast to another two trains have moved across the built bridge. Each consisted of four eight-wheel steam locomotives "Compound" and six coaches loaded with rails. And on March, 28, 1899 the first passenger train crossed the rive. Evgenie Knorre constructed a copy of the Yenisei bridge in his mechanical workshops, precise up to the smallest details 27 arshin length. This exhibit in 1900, alongside with Tour d'Eiffel, has been awarded with Grand prix and a gold medal of the World's fair in Paris "For architectural perfection and magnificent workmanship of what has been conceived". And the same as for the Paris tower, UNESCO ascribed it to the tops of human engineering thought".
A Russian writer A.Chekhov, made a great trip through the whole Russia to Sahalin in the end of 19 century, noted Krasnoyarsk in his diary as "the best and beautiful city among all others", and the mountainous here remind the mountains of the Caucasus, "the same: smoky and dreamy"."during all my life i've never seen more wonderful river than Yenisey" - shifted the writer. On order to thank him, Krasnoyarsk citizens erected a monument to Anton Pavlovich on the square of 350 years old of the city. Over 100 years ago it is hard to guess, why a quite city "in the depth of Siberian ores", and it was true for those former Krasnoyarsk with population of 20 thousand, that so liked the writer. May be he liked a lot of stony buildings most of which still have their ancient fascination. May be he liked the slickness of the cobblestone roads, beauty of the orthodox churches or chapel, which situated above the city, adoring it. Look at the ten-rouble note of the State Bank of Russia, here it is, went to us through the centuries Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel. You keep it as invitation to our city, the biggest city on the Yenisey river. No doubt, you got a lucky ticket, it leads you anyway to downhill of the chapel. Acquaintance with the city begins usually here, where one can see the most ancient blocks of the city and new housing estates. Anton Chekhov, Alexander Popov, Vasily Surikov and a famous Norwegian traveler Fritjof Nansen visited our city. Now it your turn…. In August in 1628 near the place of confluence Kacha and Yenisey was born Krasnoyarsk. It was so small at the time of young chapel and now nobody can't recognize it. It is a city with almost 1000,000 of people! Again advertisement? "…come on, and look at this by yourself" Not only see, but you will visit:
